Expert Gardening Tips for Beginners

Planning Your Small Side Yard Landscaping Project

Are you having trouble with the size of your small side yard? Is it being too crowded and too cold there? Well, perhaps you should consider apartment gardening instead. You can use a little apartment garden and still grow that great garden you have always wanted.

Depending on where your small side yard is, you can extend your front patio around the edge of your home and make your small side yard a part of your front outdoor living space. This can also be an ideal spot for your outdoor fireplace or kitchen, making more room for mingling and socializing in your front patio. You can even have a small deck or pergola set up along one of the walls. These can be wonderful places to relax outdoors during the evenings, with the heat of the patio a nice backdrop to your outdoor living space. The deck can also serve as a nice place to have your pool and for some extra privacy while enjoying the outdoors.

If your apartment has a large sunroom, you can take this large area and turn it into your very own little apartment garden. With some careful planning and landscaping, you can turn your large sunroom into a lush little oasis. You can have an outdoor fireplace in this area to provide some additional warmth and benefit from the large amount of sunshine. You can plant colorful flowers, herbs and vegetables that will thrive during the warm months of the year. The small side yard surrounding the oasis can be used as needed throughout the year for food sources and for entertaining and hanging out.

For those of you who don’t have a lot of sun to spend outside, you can still create a beautiful garden. A great choice for the cooler months is to plant a variety of succulents. These plants will tolerate cool weather and are very drought tolerant. You should be able to keep most of these plants alive throughout the winter season.

Many people like to plant a small decorative wall fountain in their landscaping side yards. These fountains can give your outdoor living space with a touch of elegance without taking up too much space. You can find many beautiful models online or at any home improvement store. Adding an outdoor shower unit will also provide you with another touch of convenience. These units are designed for both indoor and outdoor use and look great when placed next to a patio table.

For those who need more shade than what a traditional lawn can provide, a great option is to plant a shade garden. A shade garden provides a nice amount of protection from the sun for those who need the shade. Shrubs, flowering perennials and even flowers such as marigolds are great candidates for shade gardens. You will enjoy the added benefit of extra gardening space and color in your landscaping.

Once you have decided which plants will work best for your needs, the fun part starts in selecting plants for each section of the landscape. This will require some patience and time. Some areas will need more shade than others so be sure to plan out how much sun the different sections of the yard will receive. Be sure to choose the right plant for each area so it will thrive.

It’s important to plan your landscaping properly if you want to create a beautiful landscape that looks great throughout the whole year. Using plants that will thrive throughout each season is essential to a successful yard. Consider planting fruits, vegetables, flowers and grasses for all four seasons. Be sure to plan your outdoor gardening properly to ensure the best results.
