Expert Gardening Tips for Beginners

Choosing Big Balcony Plants

If you are living in a small apartment, chances are that your balcony contains limited space for big balcony plants. But as a matter of fact, it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, large plants can actually be grown on a small space. And as long as you know how to, it wouldn’t be a problem to create your own little oasis right in your own apartment. Here are some tips on how to achieve this.

It’s important to remember that balconies are typically open-air structures, so the amount of sunlight that they receive is relatively low. If your balcony is enclosed, you could use a few homely plants and artificial pots which enjoy the shade offered by the structures, like ferns or azalea. But when it’s open, especially if it’s surrounded by taller buildings, compact plants, like cactus or succulents, are best suited. For partially covered balconies, hardy, low maintenance plants like geraniums, pansies, or herbs are perfect.

Keep in mind that your apartment gardening will be a delicate art, so don’t expect things to go perfectly on the first day you put your flowers in. Keep some time aside for pruning. In general, you shouldn’t prune your plants during the summer months unless you plan on manually trimming them during winter. In summertime, you could also allow some of your plants to go into dormancy. After that, you should move them back to their permanent places.

Since plants need space to grow, and since big balcony plants are often large and heavy, consider carefully their placement. Placing your plant’s too close to one another can cause them to become entangled and make them share resources and water with one another. On the other hand, placing your plants too far apart can mean that they won’t get sufficient air exposure and could eventually die. So don’t place your plants too close or too far apart, as recommended in the plant guide provided by your landscaping professional.

When choosing the plants you want to use on your big balcony plants, you have several options. You can choose plants that are tolerant of the different elements of your balcony, so that they won’t get destroyed by the heat or the cold, for instance. However, bear in mind that as your plants get older, they tend to shed leaves. Therefore, you should choose plants that grow fast and that have large leaves that will not wither or fall off.

There are also several types of plants that are suitable for balconies. These include plants that are used to provide privacy, such as privacy plants, trees, and shrubs, as well as plants that can provide a focal point in a garden and that can add elegance and style to your garden. For example, if you’re trying to create a small outdoor kitchen, then taller growing plants such as clematis and violets would be a good idea to dress up your kitchen. On the other hand, if you’re interested in a natural feel and a minimalist garden, then a clover or an azalea would be ideal for your big balcony garden. Other plants that can provide both privacy and a focal point in a garden are tulips, daffodils, and honeysuckle.

One of the most important things to remember about using big balcony plants is that they require less maintenance than most other plants. Big plants are usually easier to maintain, because they are usually less self-defeating. For example, if you prune your big balcony plants regularly, you won’t have to do much else other than trimming the branches. You don’t have to water them or anything else. If you live in a warm area, however, you should not leave your plants alone.

While your plants may seem to thrive, it’s still best to get the advice of an expert or garden designer before you begin your big project. If you know your way around gardening, this shouldn’t be too difficult. However, if you don’t know what you’re doing, it would be better if you hire someone to do the job. This is especially true if you plan to have several different types of plants in your garden. In that case, it would be better to get some help from a professional.
