What You Need to Know Before Potted a Plant From a Plastic Bottle

Container gardening is a popular and practical method of gardening. Many people also choose to plant a plastic bottle in their garden as well. It can be an attractive way to add color, variety, and interest to your garden. Many people who have their own homes planted with these plants choose container gardening because they are quick to grow and easy to maintain. The following article will give you some tips for pot gardening for plastic bottles.

Plastic potting mix is the foundation for your new plant. Use small amounts of plastic plant pots until you are sure that the area you will be growing it on will allow for the growth of your plastic plant potting mix. For example, if you plan on putting a cabbage in the pot, make sure that the pot allows for enough space for this type of plant to grow up and out. Do not get the idea that because a plant is small, it will be easy to manage. It will take some extra work on your part to keep the plant thriving.

Most plants prefer soil that is slightly moist. If you are considering growing a plastic bottle indoors, then you will want to make sure that the container is either airtight, or has good drainage. The plastic pot should fit well in the container so that air can circulate properly around it. Good drainage will also prevent roots from becoming tangled up in the sides of the container, which can cause the plant to become stressed and cause it to die.

When you are ready to plant your plastic bottle plant pot, the best time to do so is in the late winter or early spring. During this time, the weather is usually quite warm. In the fall and early winter, the temperatures are cool. This will help your plant to stay healthy and growing properly. During this time of year, you should be able to find a large container in a department store or nursery that will work well for your needs.

Keep in mind that you need to keep the pot about 2 inches smaller than the size of the plant you want to keep in the container. This is to allow for proper drainage. Plastic pots will generally not have a bottom drain. However, if yours does have a bottom drain, it should be sloped slightly downward to prevent standing water from accumulating in the bottom of the container. You will probably also want to consider keeping a shallow dish of water near by in order to keep your plant from getting dried out.

If you purchase containers that are already made, be sure to remove any peat or moss that may be in the container. Remove any rocks or other types of filler that may be found in the plastic. Also, check to make sure the plastic is sealed tightly and airtight. There is nothing worse than plastic that has either been perforated or gassed up. If you are concerned about pests, you may want to invest in plastic that is pesticide resistant or that contains vermicides.

Next, you will want to decide what size pots you will be purchasing. Smaller pots work great for window plants that you can keep on your kitchen counter. You do not want these pots to get too big as they can become harder to take care of and harder to see. On the other hand, larger pots work great for taller plants that you want to grow on your plant potting bench. When choosing a container for your plants, you will want to choose a potting bench that is at least three to four times the size of the container you are putting the plant in.

Finally, before starting to pot your plants, it is important that you prepare your potting bench. Make sure it is thoroughly cleaned. Use the same potting soil as the container you plan on putting the plant in. Do not mix in dirt when putting your plastic bottle plant pot in the potting bench. Once everything is ready, just put your plant into the container and gently push it down into the hole.
